Fire Department mourning loss of soldier.

Maricopa, Ariz. (Aug 28, 2009) - It is with deep regret that the Maricopa Fire Department family is once again mourning the loss of an extended family member killed in action. Capt. Cory J. Jenkins, 30, of Arizona, brother of Maricopa Fire Department Engineer Dusty Jenkins, was one of four soldiers as stated by the Department of Defense, “died Aug. 25 in southern Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when enemy forces attacked their vehicle with an improvised explosive device”.

“Our fire department is a very close family and we have all been affected by this tragedy. Our members are actively supporting Dusty and his family during this extremely difficult time,” states Acting Chief Wade Brannon, “our thoughts and prayers are with the Jenkins family now.”

City of Maricopa Department of Public Safety Director Patrick Melvin states, “He was a hero and leader among men and was definitely a family member in a far away land that touched the lives of many. He will be sorely missed by all of the lives he touched.”

This is the second time the department has been effected by a member’s brother that was killed in action while serving his country.
