Why use transit.

While transit generally requires fares to use the service, it can save you money compared to filling up your car each week.

Households that use public transportation save $1,399 worth of gas each year according to the American Public Transportation Association (APTA).

The availability of public transportation options can reduce the need for an additional car, leading to annual savings of $6,251 (APTA).

Our roads are growing more congested every day. Buses, carpools and vanpools help save space on highways and manage traffic congestion.

On average, people waste 62 hours a year, or more than a week's vacation, sitting in congestion delays (Texas Transportation Institute).

Transit helps the environment!

Using transit, carpooling, or vanpooling helps to reduce the amount of oil and fuel consumed and the carbon emissions released into the environment.

Each year, U.S. transit use saves 1.4 billion gallons of fuel. This represents almost four million gallons of fuel per day (APTA).

Public transportation reduces the nation’s carbon emissions by 37 million metric tons annually. To see a similar reduction, every household in New York City, Washington, DC, Atlanta, Los Angeles and Denver would have to stop using electricity (APTA).

Each year, transit use saves the equivalent of 34 supertankers of oil, or a supertanker leaving the Middle East every 11 days (APTA).

The typical transit rider consumes, on average, one half of the oil consumed by a single-occupant vehicle (APTA).
