The following projects will foster economic development and promote environmental responsibility in private and public sectors in Maricopa:

  • The Green Business Incentive Program encourages small business owners of Maricopa to take steps to conserve natural resources, prevent pollution and reduce waste. Such practices include buying only recycled paper, copying double sided, cleaning with less toxic products and using efficient lighting systems. Businesses who partake in the program will receive incentives such as recognition on the City of Maricopa website, receipt of a certificate and fee waivers for banners.
  • The Green Building Incentive Program provides incentives for future commercial projects to be built according to national standards on environmentally sustainable construction.
  • The Green Education Program provides educational programming in collaboration with Central Arizona Community College via the website or through workshops that will include topics such as solar panel installation, water conservation, irrigation efficiency and xeriscaping, and green remodeling.
  • The Design and Engineering of “Green” City Hall for Maricopa will utilize grant funds to ensure that the new Maricopa City Hall will be built to national standards on environmentally sustainable construction. A primary benefit of a Green City Hall is lower costs in operations and maintenance which will produce significant savings to taxpayer dollars each year.
  • The Propane Vehicle Conversion Program will allow the City of Maricopa to develop a pilot program for determining the viability of using propane instead of gasoline for city vehicles. The grant will fund the conversion of three city vehicles to run on propane as well as gasoline. Data will be obtained on the impact of propane versus gasoline use by evaluating the increase of energy efficiency and reduction in energy, fuel and maintenance costs.
