Maricopa is located just 16 miles southwest of Phoenix, and 32 miles from Sky Harbor Airport. It has direct southern access to the I-8 for travel to the West while bypassing Metro area traffic congestion.

Maricopa city limits currently encompass an area of nearly 50 square miles, with a total planning area of 278 square miles.

Local Attractions

Him-Dak Museum, located in the Ak-Chin Indian Community, features more than 700 boxes of artifacts, including pottery stone tools, projectiles, some jewelry, carved animal bones and baskets.

Maricopa is home to two public golf courses, the Duke at Rancho el Dorado and the Southern Dunes Golf Club.

Harrah's Ak-Chin Hotel and Casino offers slot machines, bingo, live entertainment and dining.

Arizona Soaring is located 6.5 miles west of SR 347 and offers flight training and rides for the casual rider or high-flying thrill seeker.

Located in the southern part of the Maricopa planning area, groups can also tour the Shamrock Farms Dairy.

The city of Maricopa itself is also host to several annual events that attract thousands of attendees, such as the annual Salsa Festival every spring and the Founders' Day celebration in October.

Residential development builders are continuing to plan and build quality homes and communities for our current and future residents. 59,748 new residential homes are already approved or in the planning stages, which would equate to 167,297 residents at completion. Outside of current Maricopa city limits but within the City's planning area, an additional 82,366 residential units are already in planning and/or proposal stages.
