The planning and development process within a municipality can be a complex process and varies greatly depending upon the type and size of business operations, and factors such as property use and zoning. However, the city of Maricopa is dedicated to assisting you through this process. Our Economic Development Department and Development Services Department work together closely to ensure new projects are provided all the tools necessary to get up and running quickly. For online resources to get you started, please visit our Frequently Used Forms page. Below are some key contacts and general guidelines based upon the nature of your development plans.

 

Home-based Businesses:

Home-based businesses generally require only business licenses with the City of Maricopa if they meet appropriate guidelines for home-based operations. Download the application form and instructions here.

Residential Development:

New residential development or revisions to prior planned communities should be discussed first with the Planning Division.

 

Commercial Development:

  1. New commercial or industrial development may or may not qualify for economic development incentives or special assistance. If you are planning a new project, first contact the Economic Development Department to discuss your plans and options.
  2. To ensure a rapid process for new business and employment development in the City, the Economic Development team will coordinate with the City's Development Expeditor who is ready to assist you through the process which may or may not include rezoning, planning, permitting, and inspection. At this time, you may be asked to submit a Request for Pre-Application Conference which will provide you with an overview of requirements and the development process specific to your process and business location.
  3. If you are considering occupying an existing space in the community, processes may vary depending upon changes in use or current zoning. If there is no planned change from prior use, or if you are leasing retail space, you should visit the Development Services counter at City Hall to determine what inspections will be required in order for you to obtain a Certificate of Occupancy
