On August 31st, 2011 the Maricopa Youth Council attended the annual Arizona League of Cities & Towns Conference in Tucson, AZ. They were fortunate to participate in the Parade of Flags ceremony and attend various educational sessions. Also, they were in the audience for Senator McCain's address to the state's leaders. They connected with Youth Councils from other municipalities and even took home some free goodies. They had a great time and the experience has energized them for their next year of service! Department Initiative:
The Parks & Maintenance Division installed energy efficient lighting in the restrooms, concession stand and expansion fields of Pacana Park. The smart bulbs in the restrooms and concession stand have a life expectancy of five years. Whereas the Musco lighting in the expansion fields includes an automated monitoring system that reduces staff time and prevents the lights from turning on unless needed.
