City of Maricopa Express Transit (COMET) - New Demand Response Transit Service 

The City of Maricopa will begin operating a demand response transit program under the “COMET” name beginning Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2012. Transportation services will be offered to the general public at a cost of $1 per person for a one-way trip. COMET will provide demand response services in Maricopa on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

Trips to regional medical facilities in Chandler and Casa Grande will be offered at a cost of $3 per person for each round trip. There will be limited service to Chandler Regional Hospital on Tuesdays and to Casa Grande Regional Hospital on Thursdays. Stops may also be made within a five-mile radius of both of those locations. Demand response services are shared ride services with pick up and delivery from curb to curb. Reservations must be scheduled at least one business day prior to the appointment; however appointments can be scheduled up to a maximum of five business days in advance. All rides are subject to availability with the first pick up at 9 a.m. and the last drop off at 5 p.m. Services will not be provided on City-recognized holidays. 

COMET’s destinations include, but are not limited to, medical facilities or appointments (Chandler Regional Hospital and Casa Grande Regional Hospital), retail shopping, as well as recreation trips. Residents may access COMET’s services for all of their local transportation needs. 

 

The Reservationist will need and request the following information:

  •   Name
  •   Complete Address (pickup location)
  •   Telephone number
  •   Destination (complete address)
  •   Appointment time
  •   Will the individual be travelling with a mobility device
  •   Emergency contact telephone number

The Reservationist will take information and provide the rider with an estimated pick up time.

With a rapidly growing transportation system, AZ511 allows riders to have current travel information fast. The Arizona Department of Transportation offers the 511 Traveler Information Service. It's simple. By just dialing 511, you can get information on closures, construction, delays, public transit services, major airports, tourism, weather and more.

 

MaricopaXPRESS (MaX) - No longer in service as of September 30, 2011

With the loss of state transportation funding, the City has opted to discontinue the MaricopaXPRESS (MAX) commuter service that runs between Maricopa, Phoenix and Tempe. The last day for the MAX service was on Friday, Sept. 30. The City has continued its efforts to assist riders by partnering with Valley Metro’s Vanpool.
