During the past holiday weekend, there was an incident in which the use of fireworks was reported at Pacana Park. During the timeframe between Sunday afternoon and early Monday morning, a number of fireworks were set off near the ramada. The use of fireworks is illegal within Maricopa city limits. It is believed that this illegal activity resulted in the death of one of the ducks located at the Pacana Park lake. The duck was found with powder burns on its body suggesting a direct contact with fireworks. In addition to the death, the incident scared away the large amount of ducks that regularly inhabit the lake. During this time of year, it is normal to see approximately 60 ducks in the area; today, staff only counted 20. This is the first incident of this type to take place in Pacana Park and the City would like the community’s assistance to prevent it from happening again. If you know of someone involved in this incident or if you witness someone shooting off fireworks, please call (520) 866-5111. The City takes the protection all of its resources seriously and together the community can keep them safe for all to enjoy. Outside of this event, it was a very safe and quiet holiday weekend in Maricopa. MPD did not receive any major calls for service during that timeframe. DUI Taskforce results will be released later this week. |
