Fire Lane Parking Violations
Parking in designated fire lanes in the City of Maricopa is strictly prohibited. Fire lanes and hydrants are considered part of the fire protection system. They are designed to allow unobstructed fire apparatus access at all times in the event of a fire or a medical emergency.

Whenever a fire lane is blocked, the safety of that building and its occupants are in jeopardy. Fire lane curbs are marked red in order to define their limits. If you are found parked in front of a red curb, or a clearly signed fire lane your car may be ticketed, towed, or both. If your car is in a lane required for use by emergency personnel, fines and punishments increase significantly.

Fire Reports
The City of Maricopa Fire Department prepares a report for all events it responds to including fires, hazardous materials, emergency medical services, technical rescues and public assistance. Specifics to the event are needed to retrieve the report, in particular the date, time, and nature of the emergency.

For more information or to request a report fill out a public records request.

Fire Sprinkler Systems
The City of Maricopa Fire Department strongly encourages the installation of automatic fire sprinkler systems throughout buildings for the increased protection of both lives and property. These systems, usually consisting of overhead sprinklers, automatically spray either water or a chemical as soon as fire is detected in the immediate area.

Recreational Fires
Campfires and/or small recreational fires do not require a permit from the City of Maricopa Fire Department. The definition of a campfire is a constantly attended recreational and/or cooking fire either contained in a pit a minimum of six (6) inches below ground or surrounded by a six (6) inch high containment wall made of noncombustible material. The maximum flame height shall not exceed three (3) feet in height, and the maximum diameter shall not exceed three (3) feet. A shovel shall be located within immediate reach, and the fire shall be supervised until such fire has been extinguished.

If the fire is larger than a campfire, it is considered to be a bonfire. Bonfires do require a permit from the City of Maricopa Fire Department. There are restrictions on the size of the bonfire, and there may also be restrictions imposed on the type of materials allowed for burning. An application must be completed and a site plan provided. Fire extinguishers and/or a water source must be available to prevent the fire from getting out of hand. The fire must be constantly attended until it is completely extinguished. The permit may be revoked if emissions from the fire create excessive air pollution, a public nuisance, or a safety hazard.
**During a high air pollution advisory, certain fires may be prohibited.**

The City of Maricopa Fire Department must be notified prior to setting a bonfire and again after the fire is out.
