City of Maricopa Newsroom Citizen Leadership Academy News Releases Annexation 07-01 financial impacts update.

Understanding the financial impacts of the proposed Annexation 07-01 is an important part of the annexation process. Annexation does not instantly provide a financial benefit to the City; however, we are ready to provide services to the area as soon as it formally becomes part of the City of Maricopa.

The bullet points below are provided to help you realize the financial impacts of annexation.

> In conjunction with MuniFinancial, the City of Maricopa conducted a feasibility study that examined the financial impacts of annexation. The Maricopa City Council formally adopted the study, which showed that annexation will result in a "revenue neutral scenario" for Maricopa; in other words, annexation of the proposed territory would not result in a large increase in income for the City nor would it create an undue financial burden.

> While the feasibility study examined the entire original area proposed for annexation, the results were calculated on a per capita number based on the estimated number of persons/household from the recent special census. As such, the results are transferable to be applied for only the revised area, and the result remains "revenue neutral".

> Individual tax impacts will vary based on the Land Use Classification of individual properties. As such, the City available to provide property owners with a specific tax impact scenario. For a tax impact scenario specific to your parcel of land, contact Nicole Dailey, 520-316-6815.

> If property owners are interested in developing their land, it would be financially beneficial to do so in the City of Maricopa. This is because development fees in the City of Maricopa are significantly lower than those in Pinal County.

> It is common for property values to increase when a parcel of land is within the boundaries of a municipality versus located only in the County area. While land assessments are conducted by the County Assessor's Office, properties often become more valuable due to the availability of municipal services.

Annexation is an important step in preserving the long-term viability and sustainability of the City of Maricopa. The annexation will only be successful if we obtain the required number of signatures. If you, a fellow resident or property owner have any questions regarding annexation, please contact Annexation Project Manager Nicole Dailey as soon as possible,
or 520-316-6815.
