2008 Fall Citizen Leadership Academy: accepting applications.MCLA

We are now accepting applications for the 2009 Maricopa Citizen Leadership Academy. Limited to only 25 participants, the Academy is specially designed to help transform residents into the role of actively engaged citizens. Particularly targeted are those residents not normally involved in local government. The goal of the eight session Academy is develop an ongoing positive relationship and two-way constructive dialogue between Leadership Academy graduates and City officials/staff, ultimately building a stronger Maricopa.

The eight workshops, offering lecturettes, special guest speakers, and participant interactive, debate/discussion and simulation exercises,  provides total emersion into issues that are important to the citizens of Maricopa. Sessions with titles such as, Zen and the Art of Citizenship, Dreams, Aspirations and Taxes… Is The Price Right?, and Maricopa Schools… Reading, Writing and Test Scores?, provides a “look behind the curtain” of timely and provocative topics facing our community.

FALL 2008 DATES:
Every Thursday from September 18, 2008 through October 30, 2008. On November 18, 2008 all participants who have completed the program will be recognized at the Maricopa City Council meeting. Participants are required to attend six of the eight sessions, one council meeting and one committee meeting to graduate.

TIME: 6:30 – 8:30 p.m.

WHERE: Butterfield Elementary School.

COST: Free! There is no admission cost or registration fee.

REGISTRATION:
If you would like to register for the Citizens Academy, please return the application form by September 1, 2008. If we receive your application after the class is full and registration closed, we will reserve a place for you in the next Citizens Academy. Class is limited to 25 participans.
