The Maricopa Police Department is committed to working in partnership with our community to improve the quality of life in our city. We are dedicated to solving community problems, the reduction of crime, the protection of life and property, and upholding the laws, ordinances, and the constitutional rights of all persons. We strive to accomplish these objectives without prejudice, with the highest of integrity, and with the support of the citizens we serve.


ANIMAL CONTROL HOURS OF OPERATION AT MARICOPA CITY HALL: Tuesdays from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m.

The City of Maricopa contracts with the Pinal County Animal Control for animal control services. Animal Control handles all calls related to problem animals including:

  • Barking dogs
  • Stray, loose or abandoned animals
  • Wild or game animals
  • Animal bites
  • Trapped or lost pets

Pinal County Animal control can be requested through police communications at (520) 866-5111.

If an animal is vicious or aggressive, the Maricopa Police Department will respond. Call 9-1-1

James R. Hughes, Commander

JHughes fcCommander James R. Hughes, a New Jersey native, began his career more than 25 years ago in Mendham Township, N.J., as a police officer. His law enforcement experience over those 25 years included supervising uniformed patrol and criminal investigations. Hughes spent his final nine years in law enforcement as second in command for a municipal police agency in New Jersey and one year as Acting Chief of Police.
