H.R. 6201, Families First Coronavirus Response Act (FFCRA)

 Maricopa, Arizona, March 24, 2020 – On March 18, 2020, the H.R. 6201, Families First Coronavirus Response Act (FFCRA) was signed into law. The legislation seeks to assist employees impacted by COVID-19 and guarantees free coronavirus testing, establishes paid leave, enhances Unemployment Insurance, expands food security initiatives, and increases federal Medicaid funding [1]. This bill applies to employers with fewer than 500 employees.

 FFCRA requires certain employers to provide employees with expanded family and medical leave for specified reasons related to COVID-19. Provisions apply from the effective date through December 31, 2020 (U.S. Department of Labor).

FFCRA also includes provisions addressing Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), Women, Infants, & Children (WIC) and The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP), which are implemented through the Arizona Department of Economic Security (DES).
