For those who may not know, what exactly is the Community Resource Navigator Program, and what inspired its creation?
The CRN program partners mental health professionals with first responders to provide compassionate follow-up, resources, and guidance. This holistic approach ensures community members aren’t left navigating challenges alone. Born from a desire to meet needs during and after crises, the program connects individuals and families to the right resources at the right time, meeting people where they are and empowering them to move forward.

How does your team step in during situations where calling the police might not be the best solution?
When community members face a crisis, they call 911 or our non-emergency line. In cases where police response isn’t needed, CRNs provide mental health resources, crisis support, and follow-up, offering compassionate, individualized care that prioritizes the well-being of both individuals and the community.

Domestic Violence Awareness Month shines a light on an important issue. How does your program support individuals and families who may be affected by domestic violence?
Domestic violence affects individuals, families, and the community in complex ways. The CRN program offers compassionate, personalized support, connecting community members to safe housing, mental health services, legal aid, and other critical resources. Working with public safety partners, CRNs provide follow-up to ensure individuals and families access the services they need, prioritizing safety.
-
What types of resources and services can you help connect community members to?
Our Community Resource Navigators connect community members to trusted resources and services, including crisis response, basic needs, youth and parental supports, substance use resources, senior services, domestic violence assistance, legal aid, and veterans’ services. We continually strengthen partnerships to ensure access to the most appropriate and effective support.
-
Can you share an example of how your team has made a difference in someone’s life?
We received a call from a parent with two young children seeking emergency help in a domestic violence situation. Concerned for their safety and basic needs, she received immediate support from police and a Community Resource Navigator, who provided emotional support and helped prioritize essentials like food, communication, and safe contacts. Through Arizona’s domestic violence network, she secured safe housing, resources for her children and pet, legal assistance, and a safe way to retrieve belongings.

What’s your hope for the future of this program and the impact it will have on Maricopa?

We aim to expand our reach, strengthen partnerships, and adapt to evolving needs, creating a safer, healthier community that empowers individuals and families at every step.
