The City of Maricopa needs YOUR help to capture, in photo, beauty throughout the City of Maricopa!


Photos of any kind that represent the landscape or life in the City of Maricopa can be submitted. No need to be a professional photographer to participate. The top 12 photos will be featured in City of Maricopa calendar.

Photos submitted in the contest may be used to tell the city's story in marketing and communications materials, including the City’s website, Facebook, and elsewhere. Proper credit will be given.

The contest runs from October 15th to November 15th, 2019.

CONTEST THEME is Beauty in the City of Maricopa

Show us the beauty in the City of Maricopa! Examples of photo ideas include captures of beautiful gardens; beautiful sunsets from the City of Maricopa; or events within the community showing our citizens in all their beauty.  These photos will be used to show the beauty of the City of Maricopa wherever it is found around the city.

The Beautiful Maricopa Photo Contest is held to provide an opportunity for photographers of all skill levels to share their perspective of the City of Maricopa community and culture.

Contest Winners:
  • Prizes will be available for top photos.
  • Recognized at a City of Maricopa Council meeting.
  • Photos featured, with attribution, on the city's social media accounts.
  • Photos featured, with attribution, on the city's website.
  • Photos hung, with attribution, in City of Maricopa City Hall
  • Photos used in City of Maricopa economic development and tourism advertising
  • Top 12 photos will be used in the new City of Maricopa Calendar
Contest Rules
  1. Contest Dates:
    • Entries will be accepted October 15th through November 15th, 2019.
      • Any submission received after the entry deadline will not be eligible
    • Photographs entered in the contest can be from any time.
    • Entry forms and photos must be submitted to no later than November 15th at midnight.
  2. Entry Information:
    • There is no fee to enter the contest.
    • The contest is open to all photographers.
    • City employees and their families are eligible to enter.
    • The contestant must be the actual photographer for each image submitted under their name.
    • Photographs must be taken in and around the City of Maricopa.
    • Contestants may enter up to 3 photographs total.
    • Must be 18 or older to enter however parents may enter photos taken by their children and give attribution to the child.
    • Photos and submission information must be submitted
    • Photo must be a digital file. The City of Maricopa will not accept hard copies of photographs or emailed photographs.
    • The City of Maricopa is not responsible for entries lost through the entry procedure.
    • If there are identifiable people in the photo and it was taken in a non-public space, it is the responsibility of the photographer to obtain permission to use the photo.
    • Incomplete entries will not be judged. Contestants must provide name, email address, telephone number, and a brief description along with the photo file. If there are identifiable people in the photo, the contestant must include the name of the person(s) and consent.
    • Providing a title, date (approximate), and location for the photograph is required.
    • The City of Maricopa reserves the right to remove from the contest any submitted image that depicts illegal, unsafe, patently offensive, or otherwise inappropriate content, advertising, content implying City support or sponsorship, or any other content that the City deems contrary to the goals and intent of the contest.
    • By submitting, contestants must agree to the following:
      • I hereby give permission to the City of Maricopa or anyone authorized by the City of Maricopa to use and/or reproduce any or all digital images for any purpose including multi-media publications (print, Internet, broadcast television, presentations and internal City use) without compensation to me. The City will make every reasonable effort to ensure the creator of the image is properly credited when the image is used.
      • I understand that my submittal may be used in its entirety or in part and may be revised, modified, or combined with other images for use by the City and its designees.
      • I understand that any digital images submitted will become and remain property of the City.
      • I understand that any digital images submitted may be reviewed by the public and may be displayed in City and non-City facilities.
      • I have received permission from all person(s) in the photograph(s) for use of their image as part of my entry into the City of Maricopa Photography Contest.
      • I certify that the photos I submitted are unique and original, taken by me, and do not infringe upon any copyright or patent.
      • I certify that I have read and understand the rules of the contest.
  3. Image Requirements:
    • Digital source (camera, phone, media device):
      • JPG digital format.
      • Set at no less than 8 megapixels high resolution (to determine if your image meets the 8 megapixel requirement, simply multiply the vertical and horizontal pixel dimensions together, and if the result is larger than 8,000,000 your image size is large enough).
  4. Judging:
    • Photos will be judged on the basis of visual appeal (quality and clarity), pictorial composition, and originality as well as how well the photograph portrays the City of Maricopa. Decisions of the judging panel are final.
  5. Awards:
    • Winners will be notified by email and announced at a City of Maricopa Council meeting. Attendance of winners is encouraged.
  6. Notice:
