The City of Maricopa is excited to announce the selection of Mark Goodman as the next Chief of Police starting January 23, 2023. He joins a department committed to excellence in a city consistently ranked one of the safest in the State of Arizona.

Goodman has served with the City of Pasadena Police Department in California since 1994 and currently holds the rank of Commander.

“This is an important role for the City of Maricopa, and we are confident that we have found the right person for the job in Mark Goodman,” Mayor Nancy Smith says. “We are grateful to the senior leadership of MPD who have held the department to such a high standard of service while we conducted this nationwide search. We are ready to see the department flourish further under Goodman’s leadership and experience.”

Goodman began his career working patrol and eventually worked his way through the ranks and various divisions with the City of Pasadena Police Department. Goodman strongly believes in the value and power of contemporary community policing strategies, which include genuine concern and interaction between the Police Department and the people it serves. He prides himself on a leadership and management style that is interactive and collaborative with a focus on transparency, consistency, and honesty. Following a servant leadership model, he strives to set a positive example for employees and community members to follow.

Goodman says he is excited about the opportunity to bring a renewed focus on community policing to Maricopa and continue to build upon the long-standing partnerships with residents.

“It is my belief that Maricopa has an exemplary Police Department as evidenced by its low crime rate and commitment to community service,” Goodman says. “Our goal in law enforcement is clear – to provide the highest level of public safety to those we serve. This means employing contemporary community policing methods which include reducing crime, maintaining order, providing hope, and calming fears. I believe this can be achieved through strategic communication, applying logic when needed, common sense, and a true concern for people. The next iteration of community policing requires law enforcement to make deep connections and to build safer neighborhoods and business districts through collaborative partnerships.”

Goodman holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice, a Master of Arts degree in Organizational Leadership, and is a graduate of Class 66 of the POST Command College and Session 283 of the FBI National Academy.

Goodman and his wife Victoria have three adult daughters. Please join us in sharing a warm congratulations with their entire family.
