The department processes permits and entitlement applications, ensures compliance with applicable codes and regulations, responds to zoning, and building inquiries, and supports safe, sustainable, and attractive community development.

Permit Center
The Permit Center is the first point of contact for customers seeking services provided through Development Services, offering a one-stop shop for information and services related to the construction and development process. Permit Center staff review all applications to ensure consistency with construction standards and protection of public health and safety, assisting the applicant throughout the entire process from application to close out.
Planning & Zoning
Planning & Zoning is your go-to for project guidance and advice. Our team works with community members, developers, designers, engineers and other stakeholders through every step in the development process to achieve the best designs possible for our city. Once an application is submitted, our team reviews and approves (or denies) potential and proposed development projects. Such development projects range in size and scope from retail sign replacements and landscape updates to the design and realization of mid-rise offices and new residential developments.
Engineering
Engineering is responsible for development and implementation of commercial and residential projects. Engineering reviews all site plans, preliminary and final plats, special use permits and construction documents for all new development projects in the City. Detailed inspections are completed for every construction job in the City to ensure the public’s safety. These inspections include retention grading, sewer line flow, water line leakage and pressure, soil density, and concrete and asphalt thickness and durability.
Code Compliance
The City of Maricopa strives to maintain the character and aesthetic quality of the community by working with property owners to ensure compliance with existing City regulations. The Code Compliance Division is dedicated to protecting the public health, safety and welfare, while ensuring every citizen the right to a clean, enjoyable neighborhood.
Building Safety
The Building Safety protects the safety of residents and visitors by administering Maricopa's adopted building, plumbing, mechanical and electrical codes, as well as energy, disabled access regulations, and local and state laws for construction and maintenance of commercial, industrial and residential buildings. These codes set forth the minimum requirements for public health, safety and general welfare through structural strength and stability.
Storm Water and Floodplain Management
The purpose of Stormwater and Floodplain Management is to protect the health and welfare of the public from the impacts of flooding by promoting sound floodplain management and the development and maintenance of a cost effective and efficient citywide drainage systems.
