The City of Maricopa Economic and Community Development Department held a neighborhood meeting on May 27, 2021 to solicit citizen input on a new land use plan for the Seven Ranches area. The plan will include approximately 280 acres of land located south of Honeycutt Road between Porter Road and White and Parker Road.

The meeting was held in the Council Chambers at City Hall and was attended by seventeen citizens.  All owners of property lying within 600 feet of the study area were invited.  Rodolfo Lopez, the Economic and Community Development Department’s Deputy Director, welcomed attendees and gave a brief presentation on the reasons why the City initiated the planning project and hired Swaback pllc, a private land use consultant, to collect and analysis information for making future land use, infrastructure and open space related recommendations.

The discussion that took place during the meeting focused on future development of commercial and residential uses, streets, open space and trails.  The consultant team suggested strategies for ensuring development would be pedestrian-oriented and sensitive to resident concerns related to an increase in traffic.  Following the presentation, attendees were asked to fill out a questionnaire addressing the appropriate type, location, and density / intensity of land uses.

A copy of the meeting presentation is available on the City’s website at www.maricopaparticipates.com.  A draft of the land use plan will be uploaded to the City’s website by July 1, 2021.  A neighborhood meeting and a planning and zoning commission meeting will be held on July 12, 2021 at 5:00 pm and 6:00 pm respectively.
