What happens inside a courthouse may not always be intriguing to most but in 2024, the Maricopa Municipal Court gave residents a reason to take notice. With the opening of a brand-new, community-focused facility and a year filled with innovation and outreach, the court demonstrated how local justice can be both accessible and impactful. From streamlining case processing to inspiring students with hands-on civic education, this was a year of meaningful growth and progress.
Presiding Judge Stephen F. McCarville detailed the court's achievements, noting a reduction in case processing times and the successful implementation of digital tools to enhance public access to court services. The court also expanded its outreach programs, aiming to build greater community trust and understanding of the judicial process.
Some of the notable highlights include:
Over 8,000 civil traffic filings performed.
Approximately 865 cases were processed per employee which is the highest in Pinal County (other municipalities average approximately 635 cases per employee)
Court filings increased by 11% since 2023.
Hosted mock trials with students from Desert Wind Middle School.
Employees received over 38 hours of customer service training which is over double the Supreme Court mandated of 16 hours.
“The dedicated staff at our Municipal court are very well trained and devoted to providing excellent service to our community and I’d like to take a moment to recognize their efforts because without them, we could not have come this far in one year,” said Judge McCarville. These developments reflect the court's commitment to transparency and continuous improvement, aligning with broader efforts to modernize municipal services in Maricopa. This includes plans for courthouse expansion in the future as well as exploring additional methods of community engagement by hosting more mock trails and performing Q&As at local schools.
