Newest Developments at the Wells Shopping Center

Published on February 22, 2023

One of the most popular questions our residents ask us is, "What else is coming to Maricopa?" Rising construction costs forced many developers to pump the breaks on projects nationwide, but now the pace is picking back up in Maricopa and perhaps nowhere else is this more evident right now than off Maricopa Casa Grande Highway.

In a recent update, the City of Maricopa’s Development Services team outlined a number of new retail establishments are currently under various stages of development.

Tractor Supply Company is considered by many residents to be the headliner in a flurry of new activity in and around the Wells Shopping Center, where Walmart is located. Construction crews have already began moving dirt on the new Tractor Supply building on North Shea Way. This 22,000+ sq. ft. home improvement facility will provide more consumer options in a portion of the city that will be closer to home for a lot of residents. Farmers, pet owners, ranchers, gardeners, homeowners and others should be excited for this new one-stop shop being developed in an accessible location within the Maricopa.

Dining options are always at hot topic too for residents, and the menu is about the expand even more.  An enticing new restaurant, Slim Chickens, has exploded with development across the nation and chose Maricopa at the home of its very first Arizona location! Their 3,600+ sq. ft. building is currently planned to feature both indoor and outdoor dining options as well as a drive thru. Fans of fried chicken wings, tenders, wraps and more will be waiting in anticipation as construction is soon to begin. Meanwhile, Taco Bell is planning to open its second location, this one at the Wells Shopping Center. The addition helps alleviate some of the demand from the location on John Wayne Parkway. That plan is currently under development permit review.

On the opposite side of the shopping center, Autozone's second location is nearing completion with doors set to be opened in the coming weeks. Just south of Bahama Bucks, a lot of multitenant suites has gone vertical with construction continuing on schedule. A physical therapy center and popular local donut chain Bosa Donuts are among the current tenants planned for this lot.

Just to the west of the shopping center, Public Storage recently held a ribbon cutting ceremony opening their newest facility on the southwest corner of Stonegate Road and Alan Stephens Parkway. This location boasts nearly 100,000 sq. ft. of storage space across 660 available units.

While we’re excited to share these developments with you, please bear in mind that building is at the discretion of individual developers and their plans and timelines are always subject to change.
