WHAT IS THE MARICOPA POLICE CADET PROGRAM?

  • The Maricopa Police Department Cadet Program offers young women and men of the City of Maricopa and the surrounding areas
  • The opportunity to develop leadership skills
  • Serve the community through city events, earn volunteer hours
  • Explore the law enforcement profession from the inside
  • Learn about the Law through education-based training with practical scenarios
  • Learn from active Law Enforcement Officers, including SWAT, K9, and many others
  • As well as participate in competitions against other Cadet / Explorer programs

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be 14-20 years of age
  • 14-year-olds must have completed the 8th grade before applying
  • Have a good moral character and undergo a thorough background review to assess character and integrity that may include interviews with neighbors, teachers, and employers
  • Maintain a C-average or higher (2.0+ cumulative grade point)
  • Must not have a prior conviction for a criminal offence or serious traffic offense
  • Be able to regularly attend weekly Cadet meetings
  • Be willing to volunteer their time to attend Cadet functions
  • Be willing to commit to the MPD Cadet code and exemplify the professional image of the Maricopa Police Department

Maricopa Police Cadets meet weekly on Thursdays from 5:30 pm to 8:00 pm.

  • Weekly meetings include an understanding of police work and education
  • Participate in police training with other cadets and be trained by Maricopa Police Officers
  • Participate in yearly state-wide and national competitions against other police department cadets
