City of Maricopa Unveils Multi-Family Housing Design Guidelines

After receiving feedback from the public and internal teams, the Development Services department has finalized and approved the multi-family housing design guidelines that will set the standard for future housing options in our community. The guidelines have been designed to further the goals and policies of the City of Maricopa General Plan, specifically emphasizing visual character, health, environmentally conscious design, and pedestrian-friendly opportunities to establish a healthy sustainable community.  The benefits of implementing the Multi-Family Residential Design Guidelines are actualized by:

  • Providing a framework for developers and reviewers so that multi-family residential developments offer diverse and attractive building types, floor plans, and architectural styles with unique building architecture, site design, and functionality. 
  • Eliminating redundancy within developments by encouraging a variety of building sizes, building heights, amenities, open spaces, and providing a sense of arrival through entry features, building orientation, building materials and colors, rooflines, theme walls, and entrance gates. 
  • Providing innovative site design standards that create walkable, safe, pedestrian-friendly, family-friendly, and sustainable developments with usable open space and various amenities.
Public opinion and feedback were of the utmost importance when crafting these guidelines. The City of Maricopa held two "call to the public" sessions in which the community was invited to voice their concern and provide input on what is most important to them. After some deliberation and careful consideration, the multi-family housing guidelines have been finalized and approved.
