Officer Kennedy Weimiller joined the Maricopa Police Department in Sept. of 2020 and she currently serves in our patrol division.  Kennedy and her family moved from Minnesota to Maricopa, when she was 13.  Kennedy’s older sister is a nurse and her younger brother also wants to be in law enforcement.

After graduating from Maricopa High School, Kennedy went on to attend the Central Arizona College Maricopa Campus, where her career interests were to either be a dietician or a social worker.  Prior to entering law enforcement, Kennedy worked as a restaurant hostess, a hospital security guard, and a Pizza Hut manager.  However, Kennedy’s dad was a cop and she eventually realized she ultimately wanted to follow in her dad’s footsteps for her career.

A few of her favorite things:

Kennedy prefers cake to pie, prefers Mac to PC, and prefers the book to the movie – unless it’s a scary movie.  One of her favorite restaurants is V’s Grill in Winsted, Minnesota and her favorite ice cream is anything with chocolate.  Kennedy enjoys running, playing soccer, hiking, kayaking, reading, and family time.  Kennedy likes all country music, especially Garth Brooks, Eric Church, and Chris Stapleton.  In Jr. high school, she played the saxophone.

Proudest accomplishment:

Graduating from the police academy, where she finished at the top of her class (#1 in firearms, #1 in academics, and #2 in her overall cadet performance).  Kennedy was also voted #1 by her academy classmates for excellence!

Career highlight

Graduating from the MPD Field Training Program.

Kennedy chose a career in law enforcement based on the examples from her father, who was a police officer in Minnesota.  As a school resource officer, Kennedy’s father mentored at-risk kids, gang members, and other troubled teens.  As a result, many of their lives were turned around and redirected onto a better path.  When Kennedy saw those successes and saw the kids whose lives were turned around – especially the ones who later returned to her father to thank him, that did it for her – and that’s when she knew what she wanted to do for her career!

Kennedy’s definition of success is setting a goal and achieving it.  Doing what makes you happy – not about money.

Another person who was a positive influence in her life was another MPD officer, who Kennedy met through her soccer team, and who helped guide Kennedy to apply with MPD.

Way to go, Kennedy!  We’re so proud to have you on our team!

Well, that concludes this edition of the MPD Employee Spotlight.  Stay tuned for the next edition, coming soon!
