City Council held a special session earlier this week to fill the vacant seat left by Mayor Nancy Smith. Many prospective candidates submitted applications to join the elected officials but only four were selected for the interview process. After two rounds of interviews, Eric Goettl was selected by a 4-2 vote from the current members of City Council to be the next Councilmember of the City of Maricopa. "My number one priority is to represent the individuals of our city," said Goettl during his interview. "I am here to serve and do what is right for our community." Goettl will be sworn in during next week's regular council meeting scheduled for September 20. He will serve until the term ends in December, 2024.
