In the spirit of collaboration, Maricopa Mayor Nancy Smith participated in a discussion panel with three other city mayors and managers. Moderated by Maricopa’s City Manager, Ben Bitter, the session looked at the unique dynamic between mayors, council members, and city managers in creating effective public policy and completing projects.
“When city councils and managers work hand-in-hand, we unlock new potentials and pave the way for impactful changes,” Mayor Nancy Smith shared. “It’s about breaking down barriers and creating a streamlined process that truly serves our residents.”

But the day didn’t stop there. Maricopa’s future leaders, six bright stars from the city’s youth council, had their moment in the spotlight. They immersed themselves in a day dedicated to advocacy and leadership, absorbing valuable lessons on how their voices can reshape their communities.
“I absolutely loved connecting with other youth leaders and seeing their interests and concerns and how they relate to mine,” shared Evelieh, a Jr. at Maricopa High School.
A sentiment shared by her fellow youth council member.
“I love how dedicated our youth are to connecting with one another and working together for a greater change,” shared Amiyah.
“Including our youth in the local government process is important. When young people participate, they bring fresh perspectives, innovative ideas, and a passion for positive change," shared Councilmember Henry Wade. “Their involvement today helps shape the Maricopa of tomorrow, and I'm excited to see how their voices will lead us forward.”
