Court is nearly in session. Work continues forward on the new courthouse located on West Civic Center Plaza. Caliente Construction crews are beginning foundation work on Maricopa’s first standalone Municipal Court. “It’s an exciting time for Maricopa, the foundation plans are complete and permitted for construction,” said CIP Project Manager, Regis Reed. “Final plans for the project are scheduled to be completed by the end of May.” The new building will provide services for misdemeanors, civil traffic citations, protective orders, and city ordinance violations while standing as a separate, independent branch of the city government. It will improve efficiency and effectiveness with a City Council-appointed Municipal Judge who can solely focus on local laws and codes. That appointed judge, Hon. Stephen McCarville, has led the transition with City Council chambers operating as a temporary space since January. Prior to that, the city relied on the Pinal County Justice Court. The City expects the building to be completed by the end of the year. Staff will begin moving into the facility early next year.
