During Tuesday night's city council meeting, the Council announced the process for selecting a new council member to fill the seat vacated by Rich Vitiello earlier this month.

Pursuant to the City Code and Arizona Revised Statutes, council will consider candidates through a public application process. A downloadable version of the application and a description of necessary qualifications are availablehere.

The application process is open now and all applications are due back to the City Clerk's office by close of business no later than Tuesday, April 16.

On Tuesday, April 23, council will hold a special session at 6 p.m. at City Hall. During that meeting, each council member will vote for their respective top three candidates from the pool of applicants. The top vote recipients will then be publicly interviewed individually in Council Chambers during that same meeting. Council will then select and announce the successful candidate.

The successful candidate will be sworn in during the regular council meeting on May 7 and will serve out the remainder of the current term, which ends December 1, 2026.

City of Maricopa residents who feel they possess applicable qualifications and the dedication required for the position are invited to apply.
