Chief James Hughes presented local resident Rommel Gloria with the Hometown Hero award during the latest Coffee with Cops event for his act of heroism for saving a life.

In February of this year, Gloria was on his way to Maricopa Elementary School to drop off his son when he saw a man lying motionless on the sidewalk in his neighborhood. He immediately stopped the car and called 9-1-1 and was immediately guided by a dispatcher on how to perform CPR. After a few minutes, Ofc. Schreiber arrived on scene and took over before the ambulance arrived and transported the individual to the hospital where he was further treated.

“The opportunity to save a human life is an achievement you will cherish for the rest of your life,” said Chief Hughes while presenting the award.

Gloria received the award with his family members present including his parents who made the trip from Southern California to witness the event.
