The City of Maricopa is gaining recognition across Arizona for its innovative and collaborative approach to securing funding for one of the region’s most critical transportation corridors — State Route 347.
Mayor Nancy Smith and Councilmember Vincent Manfredi recently presented at the Arizona Transportation Policy Summit in Sierra Vista, where they shared Maricopa’s journey in successfully navigating the complex process of getting SR 347 included in the Arizona Department of Transportation’s Five-Year Program.
Their presentation highlighted the city’s strategic partnerships, persistence, and data-driven advocacy that led to substantial progress in advancing the long-awaited expansion and safety improvements along SR 347.
“It was an honor to share Maricopa’s story with peers from across the state who face many of the same challenges we do,” said Mayor Nancy Smith. “This milestone reflects not only the strength of our partnerships but also the dedication of our city staff who worked tirelessly to educate and engage our community throughout this process. Their efforts have been instrumental in building the understanding and support that helped make this achievement possible.”
Councilmember Vincent Manfredi added, “From the beginning, this effort has been about teamwork and a shared vision for improving mobility and safety. We’re proud that Maricopa’s model of collaboration is now being recognized as a roadmap for other growing communities across the state.”
The summit brought together transportation leaders from across Arizona to exchange ideas and best practices. Maricopa’s story stood out as a powerful example of how collaboration, communication, and persistence can turn long-term transportation goals into real progress.
