During last night's regular council meeting, Mayor Price presented an award to Mike Riggs, Public Services Director for the City of Maricopa, for Excellence in Historic Preservation. Barbara Schulz, Regeant of the Casa Grande Valley Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR) became interested when she learned that the team responsible for moving the 1948 California Zephyr was lead and organized by Mike. The historic importance and significance of the 90-ton Zephyr in the transportation industry of the western United States qualified him to receive this award for promoting historic preservation.
"This award is definitely well deserved as moving a 90-ton train car isn't easy," said Mayor Price. "Mike and his team did a fantastic job with this project and the award is well deserved."
