New Speed Limit On The Horizon For Porter Road

Beginning in early July, drivers traveling on Porter Road will notice a change designed to create a safer and more predictable driving environment.

A uniform speed limit of 35 miles per hour will be established on Porter Road from Honeycutt Road to Maricopa-Casa Grande Highway. Currently, the speed limit is 35 mph for the first mile north of Maricopa-Casa Grande Highway before increasing to 45 mph near several schools and a community park.

By creating a consistent speed limit along this corridor, the City aims to improve safety for drivers, pedestrians and cyclists while reducing confusion caused by changing speed zones in an area with significant daily activity.

“Consistent, data-driven decisions like this are exactly how we continue improving safety across Maricopa’s roadway network,” said Mayor Nancy Smith. “This change on Porter Road is a great example of how we are responding to real conditions on the ground while keeping the long-term safety of our residents at the forefront.”

Over the past year, the City has completed several traffic improvement projects, including the installation of new traffic signals at intersections, roadway enhancements and lane improvements designed to improve traffic flow and increase safety. Many of those projects have been identified and prioritized through the City's Traffic Strike Force.

Comprised of representatives from Public Works, Engineering, Police, Finance and city leadership, the task force meets regularly to review traffic data, evaluate resident concerns and identify opportunities to improve safety and traffic operations across the city.

"Our staff are constantly collaborating across departments on projects that improve our community, and this is another great example of that teamwork in action," said Mayor Smith.

The strike force's coordinated approach allows traffic issues to be evaluated from multiple perspectives, helping the City identify improvements that can be implemented quickly while also planning for larger infrastructure projects that support Maricopa's continued growth.
