On January 20, 2026, the City of Maricopa Council Approved the Adoption of the 2024, International Codes including the 2023 NEC, and A117.1-2017 Accessible Codes. The new codes will go into effect, onFebruary 20, 2026. Plans submitted for an initial review beginning February 20, 2026, must comply with the newly adopted Codes and associated amendments, with the following exceptions noted below. Residential Standard Plans approved under the 2018 International Codes will remain valid for a period of seven months,until September 1, 2026. Standard plans that are being revised to the 2024 codes should be submitted as early as possible to allow for plan review timelines. Commercial projects currently under design using the 2018 Codes that cannot be submitted prior to February 20, 2026, may file a code modification to submit the project for approval using the 2018 Codes; no code modifications will be allowed after May 20, 2026. Permits that were issued under the 2018, I-Codes that have expired and deemed, “NO WORK WITHIN 180 DAYS” after issuance will be allowed a onetime 180-day extension, if an extension is applied for, less than 60 days after the expiration date. If no extension is applied prior to the 60-day grace period, a new permit application will need to be applied for under the 2024 codes.
