Recreation on a Roll: Check Out the Latest Addition to Copper Sky!

Arizona winters may be flake-free, but it turns out you can still have a ball without snow. Bocce has landed! The timeless Italian lawn-bowling game is the newest recreation feature at Copper Sky — giving families, friends, and neighbors yet another reason to get outside and play.

“This is really fun!” says Councilman Vincent Manfredi, who helped explore the addition. “We’re always looking for creative ways to bring people together. Maricopa has such a strong tradition of community, and we’re excited to offer another free activity for residents of all ages.”

Getting started couldn’t be easier. Beginning on Monday, November 24, residents can check out a bocce set by bringing their ID to the Copper Sky front desk (must be 18+ to check out equipment). The courts will be available seven days a week on the turf field on the east side of the facility. Play is first come, first served and may adjust around scheduled reservations.

“Bocce is great because anyone can learn it in minutes,” says Parks & Recreation Director Rocky Brown. “It’s part of our larger effort to continue elevating Maricopa’s parks. We have an exciting year ahead — more ballfields at Lake View Park, additional pickleball courts at Copper Sky, new shade structures at Pacana Park, our amazing new Field House, and of course, the incredible progress at Mike Ingram Heritage Park. It’s a great time to get active in Maricopa.”

Recreation Project Updates Around Maricopa

Field House

Overview:

The new Field House off Bowlin Road at Copper Sky will help meet the growing demand for indoor recreation while expanding opportunities for leagues, tournaments, everyday play, and future community events.

Inside the facility:

The court layout will accommodate:

4 full-size basketball courts, or
9 volleyball courts, or
12 indoor pickleball courts

Parking & Access:

To support this addition, the parking lot between Copper Sky and the Field House is being permanently expanded. MLK Street — currently closed — will be redesigned as additional parking, improving convenience for daily users and large events across the entire complex.

Pacana Park Shade Structures

Mike Ingram Heritage Park
