If you’ve ever driven past a fenced-off lot or a new building going up and wondered, “What is that—and when is it actually opening?” you’re not alone. It’s one of the most common questions the City of Maricopa hears as growth continues across the community.
The answer isn’t always simple. Some projects are just ideas. Others are working through permits. And some are closer than they appear to opening their doors.
To help make sense of it all, the City has updated its “What’s New Maricopa” page with a clearer, more mobile-friendly design—and a new way to track development through three key stages.
Projects in this category have advanced beyond the initial concept stage. Developers have submitted more detailed plans and are in the permitting process, signaling readiness to move toward construction. At this stage a developer has a site plan showing building location, parking design, access location and other site elements. In addition, proposed architectural elevations, lighting plan, landscape plan and other studies and reports such as draining and traffic.
Under Construction
Some of development projects may already be underway, such as the Southbridge Shopping Center at Honeycutt Ave and John Wayne Parkway, or new restaurant developments near Stonegate Plaza (Home Depot area) along Maricopa-Casa Grande Highway. These projects can be found in the under construction tab.
With these projects and those in pre-application, residents have the ability to submit comments directly to the Maricopa Development Services team via the dedicated inbox: development@maricopa-az.gov.
This category includes projects that have received a Certificate of Occupancy from the City. At this point, they are ready to open and operate.
Overall, this portal is a window into the development that is unfolding around Maricopa.
