Yesterday, the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) officially posted a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) on the design and engineering of the widening of State Route 347, from I-10 to the northern Maricopa city limits. The proposed project will design the ultimate improvements for the widening of over 13 miles of the highway, which will add an additional inside lane to northbound and southbound travel as well as a median barrier. The proposal also includes additional roadwork throughout the project area, including widening three at-grade intersections and six bridges. Statements of qualifications are due from design firms by December 13th, 2022. The length of the design project is estimated to be approximately 18 months, which means that all engineering work should be completed by the summer of 2024. Bids for construction on the project would take place following the design completion. For interested parties, details of the bid package can be foundhere. The continued progress is encouraging towards finding a solution to the congestion and safety concerns on State Route 347. The City of Maricopa will remain actively involved in the project to ensure adequate measures are in place as quickly as possible.
