Pickleball players in Maricopa will soon have more courts to enjoy. Copper Sky Recreation Complex is adding six new outdoor courts to meet the sport’s growing popularity.

With leagues, lessons, and drop-in play filling the existing outdoor courts almost every day, the expansion will mean shorter waits, more playtime, and improved recreational options for families and residents across the city.

“Demand for pickleball has grown rapidly, and we want to stay ahead of it,” said Parks and Recreation Director Rocky Brown. “These new courts will give players of all levels more opportunities to get out and play.”

Construction on the new courts begins May 11 adjacent to the current ones. The existing courts will remain fully open throughout the project.

To make room for the expansion, the sand volleyball courts will be relocated slightly north of their current location. The volleyball courts will temporarily close during construction and reopen once the relocation is complete.

The outdoor expansion is only part of the City’s larger vision for pickleball at Copper Sky. Later this year, the new Fieldhouse is expected to open with 12 additional indoor pickleball courts, significantly increasing indoor capacity and providing more options for year-round play. Combined with the six existing indoor courts inside the Copper Sky Gymnasium, the complex will offer a total of 18 indoor courts once the Fieldhouse opens.

Once complete, Copper Sky will feature 30 pickleball courts (12 outdoor and 18 indoor) helping meet growing demand while expanding recreation opportunities for residents throughout the community.
