Employee Spotlight - MPD Crime Analyst Megan Dickerson

MPD Crime Analyst, Megan Dickerson, joined MPD in 2014. Prior to moving to Maricopa, Megan, her husband, and their three kids were in the U.S. Navy, stationed in Hawaii, where Megan worked in naval intelligence and her husband was assigned to a fast-attack submarine. Megan absolutely loves her job because she gets to contribute to MPD’s mission by identifying crime trends and patterns and other information to help keep our city safe.
Hobbies / Interests
Megan enjoys spending time with her family, taking the kids to sports events, golf, tennis, volleyball, and swimming. Megan is a Marvel Cinematic Universe fanatic and the whole family has matching Marvel shirts! Megan loves reading fiction and listening to the True Crime podcasts. Megan also enjoys reading fiction and she is a member of the Reese Witherspoon Book Club.
Favorites
- Sports teams: Dallas Cowboys / AZ Coyotes hockey / Texas Rangers baseball team.
- Restaurants: Snooze (Ahwatukee) for brunch / Postino (Gilbert) wine bar.
- Ice cream: Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough -- Any Brand.
- Music: Casey Donahew / Cody Johnson / Ashley McBride.
- Movies: Clueless / Any Marvel movie, including Dr. Strange and Iron Man.
Best vacation ever
The entire Dickerson family went to Yellowstone National Park, in Montana, where they rented a cabin and had lots of family time and sightseeing.
Something her co-workers don’t know about her
Megan’s first job in the U.S. Navy was working as a Morse Code operator. Megan also played the viola in high school and was in a high school combo-musical quartet, where they played paid gigs at weddings.
Most embarrassing moment
When Megan was in the snowy grounds of her Navy bootcamp, while marching in close formation one day, she slipped and fell, knocking over three other cadets and bruising her tailbone. She couldn’t sit down for a whole week.
Proudest accomplishments
Family and kids / Being a mom and a wife / Raising her kids to be happy, healthy, and successful.
Career Highlight
In the Navy, Megan was part of recovery and humanitarian aid effort called, Operation: Haiti Relief, in which she worked on a ship, which served as a mobile hospital and provided food, water, and other provisions for the hurricane victims in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. Comforting and helping all of those families was a totally humbling experience for Megan.
Favorite part of the job:
All of the people she gets to work with. Megan loves to collaborate with other crime analysists and detectives and loves having a great job where she makes a positive impact in community where she lives.
Least favorite part of the job
Getting up early every morning to start work by 6:00 AM.
Worst jobs ever
Being a baby sitter for the neighborhood kids (AKA terrorists, maniacs, and monsters) when she was in high school – and the part where she fell and bruised her tailbone, during Navy bootcamp, in the freezing snowy winter of Great Lakes, Illinois.
Definition of success
Being happy and content with your life and your work, which helps others – and maybe being able to buy a new purse once in a while!
Role models / Influences
Grandma Barbara Nancy – because no one prays harder for Megan than grandma does! Megan says that her grandma is so patient and understanding, kind, generous, loving and that Megan can call on her at any time. When Megan was a child, and her younger sister and other grandkids played dress-up and had tea parties, sleep-overs, and camp-outs with Grandma Barbara Nancy in grandma’s back yard.
