Yesterday, Chief Hughes was on hand at the Maricopa Library and Cultural Center to present several awards for the Quarterly Rewards Ceremony recognizing exceptional individvuals for their efforts in the second quarter of this year.

The first awards were handed out to the MPD Volunteers who are involved in the YANA (You Are Not Alone)  program. They received special recognition for their continued efforts in making contact with local elderly who would otherwise have no one else to speak with inside or outside their homes. Additionally amongst the volunteers, Barbara Price was named Volunteer of the Quarter.

The Civilian of the Quarter award was given to Dianna Tercero for her work ion the MPD records department. And finally, Andy Juarez received the Commander’s Coin for his efforts and assistance with the MPD.  He is the first non-MPD employee to receive this award.

For the MPD officers in attendance, Officer Irene McCorry received a life saving metal for her incredible efforts in rescuing an individual in their home. The Officer of the Quarter award went to Officer Joseph Ramos for his outstanding work. Commanders Stephen Judd and Mike Campbell received the Chief's Coin for their excellence in leadership. Finally, Sergeant Hal Koozer was honored with the Supervisor of the Quarter award for fantastic work with the volunteer program.

"Those of you who have worked with Sgt. Koozer know that his positive personality is infectious," said Chief Hughes as he was issuing the award. "He's done a lot of great work with all of the additional responsibilities assigned to him over the last few months and there isn't anyone better for the job."

Eight people stand holding certificates in a room, with the Maricopa Police Department logo visible on a table. A police officer applauds them.
