A group of Maricopa’s best and brightest got the chance to report to City Council on their eye-opening experience during the Arizona League of Cities and Towns. These high-schoolers were invited on behalf of Councilmember Wade to attend the annual conferences and connect with leaders from ninety incorporated cities and towns from around the state.
The teens highlighted memorable moments from the conference, including seminars on public speaking, networking and addressing mental health, an issue they say is now of critical importance during the pandemic.
"During our mental health workshop, we realized how challenging these past two years have been for everyone around the world," said Deanna Lemorin, Chairlady of the Maricopa Youth Council. "It gave us a chance to talk about our mental health challenges and taught us how to support ourselves and our friends."
"The City of Maricopa has gifted us wisdom that we would be unable to obtain at school," Youth Council Treasurer Christopher Garner said. "We are able to bounce ideas from other city councils and create connections."
"It was a wonderful experience to take part of with the City of Maricopa Councilmembers" said Matthew David, Youth Council Vice Chairman.
During the presentation, Councilmember Wade and elected officials recognized each of the members of the Maricopa Youth Council with an award to thank them for their service and everything they have done for the city including volunteer efforts and hosting events in the community.
