Whether you’re a pickleball fanatic, have never picked up a paddle, love volleyball or just want to be part of the fun, there’s something happening for you during Grand Opening Week.

TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 22 | OFFICIAL RIBBON CUTTING

We’ll kick things off Tuesday morning by making it official! Join City leaders and members of the community as we cut the ribbon and officially open Maricopa’s newest recreation amenities at Copper Sky.

TUESDAY NIGHT | NEW COURTS ON THE BLOCK

Tuesday night, we’re turning back the clock and turning up the fun!

Break out the neon, leg warmers, windbreakers, and a whole can of Aqua Net for that big, crimped hair for New Courts on the Block, an 80s-themed grand opening party hosted by Maricopa Parks and Recreation.

  • Pickleball Round Robin Tournament: Help us break in the new courts! Compete for a chance to win top honors at our grand opening. Pre-register on ActiveNet starting the day before, or sign up in person at 6:00 PM. (Specific game details coming soon!) •
  • Sand Volleyball: Show off your Top Gun skills on the sand! Bring your own team or jump in with others on the court.
  • 80s Costume Contest & Music: Not playing? No problem! Come down, enjoy great 80s jams, dress in your best throwback gear, and enter to win prizes for best dressed.

When: Tuesday, September 22, 2026 | Starts at 6:00 PM
Where: Maricopa Parks & Recreation

Grab your friends and come celebrate with us!

SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 26 | DISCOVER PICKLEBALL

Never played pickleball? Perfect.

Maricopa’s pickleball community is taking over the new courts for a morning designed to introduce you to one of America’s favorite sports.

Local pickleball ambassadors will be on hand to teach you everything you need to get started — from the basic rules and beginner techniques to choosing a paddle, finding the right grip and getting connected with local players and competitive leagues.

Already know how to play? We’ve got plenty for you, too.

Jump into open play or test your skills with some decidedly not-so-serious pickleball challenges, including:

  • Ping-pong-style alternating partners
  • Overhead serves
  • Anything-but-a-pickleball-paddle play
  • Fun skills challenges and games
  • Beginner clinics and instruction
  • Open play throughout the event

USA Pickleball ambassadors will also be joining the celebration with giveaways and swag, plus they’re donating 12 pickleball paddles for a FREE raffle!

Additional vendors will be on site with sports drinks, physical therapy and other resources to help you play your best.

No paddle? No experience? No problem.

Come meet Maricopa’s pickleball community, learn the game, discover local leagues and find out why so many people have fallen in love with the sport.

Most importantly, come experience the beautiful new courts that are ready to become your new favorite place to play.

THE COURTS ARE OPENING. NOW IT’S TIME TO PLAY.
