Like the desert bloom that happens twice yearly in Arizona, art in Maricopa is blossoming in two new phases. It's all part of the City’s Public Arts Initiative and stems from the belief that for a community to thrive, the arts in all its varied avenues is essential. “Ibelievethat theartsare vital for thewell-beingandprosperityof Maricopa,"explained Councilman Eric Goettl. "The arts enrich our lives, foster creativity andinnovation, andpromotesocial cohesion and cultural diversity.Iseetheartsas the 'soul' of acommunity.” These creative and colorful projects showcase the talents and diversity of the community, attracting the eye of developers while promoting quality of life and fostering a family atmosphere that the city of Maricopa has cultivated throughout its rich history. Among the new artistic achievements of the summer is the addition of a second "herd" wild horse statues. These beautiful installations feature the skills of local artists and include a new arrangement that galloped into place at the Alterra subdivision in July. You can find them mapped with the locations of all 18 wild horses by clicking here. Maricopa also saw a second wave of artistry this summer with the addition of stylized signal boxes. Once again, local artists used these blankcanvases to brighten the community.(See below for the full array of freshly covered signal boxes) "The Maricopa Arts Community is an active, vibrant, creative community, ready to work hard to celebrate and reflect Maricopa's past, present, and future,” described Councilwoman, Amber Liermann. The City also explored its first foray into creating a series of majestic murals, and the result immediately took Maricopa's breath away with a stunning piece that debuted on the side of the Maricopa Museum(View images here). This signature spray paint masterpiece was provided by regionally acclaimed muralist, Mauriel "Morty" Morejon, whose work is rapidly becoming recognized throughout the Valley.
