Last Thursday, the City of Maricopa unveiled ten beautifully painted horses from local artists within our community and donated by their sponsors. Courtny Tyler State Farm, Be Awesome Youth Council, Friends and Family of Anthony Smith, Daughters of the American Revolution, and Friends of the Library were amongst some of the sponsors that donated to this project. The original plans were to purchase and paint four horses but the overwhelming support from our local businesses increased that count to ten.
"It's been over a year since City Manager Rick Horst brought this idea to the Cultural Affairs and Arts Committee of this iconic art piece to our city," said Nathan Ullyot, director of community services.
The process began a few months ago when the City announced they were looking for artists to submit designs for the five-foot tall fiberglass horses that would go on display at various and iconic throughout out city.
"I've always believed for a community to thrive that the arts are important," City Manager Rick Horst said. "It is important to create a place that is worthy of our affection."
