The Copa Night Market series of events have been a staple of Mariocopa for the last couple of years. To kick things off in the new year, the City unveiled a brand new theme Time Machine which brought visitors through a tour of five decades of history in a single night. One of the main attractions of this event was the car show. Sixty owners registered and showcased their beautiful vehicles throughout the park grounds. The cars were competing in several categories with prizes awarded to the winners:
Kids Choice - $100 1978 Pontiac Trans Am - Lorrie Schick
Crowd Favorite - $200: 1967 Chevrolet El Camino – Tony Murell
2nd Place Tie for Crowd Favorite - $25 Gas Gift Card 1952 Oldsmobile Super 88 – Paris Holman
2nd Place Tie for Crowd Favorite - $25 Gas Gift Card 1957 Chevrolet 210 – Scott Sullivan
Mayor & Council Pick– $100 1978 Chevrolet Corvette – Dennis Margevich
Best in Show - $250 1941 Ford ½ Ton – Sam Clements
A current staple of every Copa Night Market thus far has been the variety of shops and food trucks available. Over seventy different vendors were available at this new event boasting a broad variety of different products and cuisines. The vinyl banners promoting the event, including stage backdrops representing each of the decades were printed by local entrepreneur Eliana Alley of RJA Enterprise, a high school junior at Maricopa High School. “After three years of hosting the Balloon Glow at this time of year, we decided to try something different and the community responded well. It was great seeing residents checking out all of the cars, shopping from local vendors, and also out dancing to the awesome music of the various decades," said Brenda Campbell, Recreation Supervisor and planner of the event.
