A 2019 land lease agreement between the City of Maricopa and an area farm has been paying back dividends to the community. Per the agreement, the City has permitted Goodyear-based Duncan Family Farms to utilize land east of White and Parker Road surrounding City Hall rent-free with the stipulation that they both maintain the land as well as provide 20,000 pounds of fresh produce to local food banks on an annual basis. With nearly two months still left on the June 30 deadline, the growers reported they have already provided well over the agreed-upon amount with donations totaling nearly 30,000 pounds. To date, F.O.R. Maricopa Food Bank received 14,150 pounds and the Maricopa Pantry received 15,550 pounds of organic romaine, baby kale and spinach. The City is appreciative to Duncan Family Farms for its generous contribution and continued partnership.
