Getting real-time alerts about incidents in our community couldn’t be easier with the Maricopa Community Alert Network (MCAN). MCAN is a free notification system designed to deliver real-time notifications directly to your phone or email. From major traffic disruptions to emergency alerts, MCAN empowers residents to choose what types of information they want to receive and how they want to receive it. Once enrolled, users can opt in to receive:
Traffic updates – including unplanned closures, accidents, and detours
Public safety alerts – including police or fire department notifications
City Announcements – important updates about city services and facilities
It’s important to note that our alerts are intentionally limited, with clear criteria guiding what gets sent. Most residents will only receive a handful of alerts each year—so when one does come through, you’ll know it’s something important. In recent months, MCAN alerts have alerted drivers to a long-term closure of a major roadway due to a collision allowing drivers to plan alternate routes. It has also been used to update residents about a wildland fire pushing smoke into our area. You can get started with MCAN by clicking here to sign up. Just a reminder: These alerts are separate from emergency alerts like evacuation orders or weather warnings. Those types of alerts—such as shelter-in-place, dust storm warnings, or evacuation notices—are sent automatically to your phone during serious emergencies.
