After being selected during a special session last week, Councilmember Eric Goettl was sworn in during the last regular council meeting.

Eric Goettl is an Arizona native who moved his young family to Maricopa in 2004 where he and his amazing wife have raised five wonderful children. One of their family goals is to sink roots deep into whatever community they live in. Opportunities to help build and shape one of Arizona’s fastest growing cities abounded in Maricopa and he quickly went to work. While working closely with his religious community, he organized and participated in several projects to help increase the quality of life for the residents of Maricopa. From hosting local blood drives and supporting multiple Eagle Scout projects to organizing a community garden hosted on the Troy Skousen farm behind Cobblestone that donated tons of fresh vegetables to F.O.R. Maricopa, Goettl found multiple ways to build relationships focused on lifting others.

Goettl earned his Bachelor of Science and Master of Arts in Religious Studies degrees from Arizona State University. He was hired as a full time Religious Educator for the Seminaries and Institutes of Religion program of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and has taught in the seminary classroom for over 25 years. His passion is mentoring and teaching the rising generation and considers himself blessed to work with the great young people who attend the Seminary programs here in Maricopa.

Some of Goettl’s volunteer background includes being among the first graduating class of Maricopa’s Community Emergency Response Team in 2013 where he continues to give his support. He served on Maricopa Police Department’s Advisory Committee under Police Chief Stahl and is certified by FEMA in basic emergency management and Emergency Operations Center functions.

Goettl was appointed in 2022 to fill the vacancy on City Council when Nancy Smith was appointed as Mayor. His term will complete in December 2024
